The Old Danish Pointing Dog is a solid, rectangular gundog with a short white coat heavily ticked with brown, a large head, and dropped ears. The outline is that of a heavy Danish pointer, built for a full day in the field.

A solid gundog with a short coat and a field voice; he wants hunt or long trotting walks, not a still apartment day.

The Old Danish Pointing Dog, or Gammel Dansk Honsehund, is Denmark’s native pointing breed. It was used as a close-working bird dog. The UKC classes it as a Gun Dog.

Color: White with brown markings and ticking; the brown can look almost liver

Temperament

These pointers are typically calm at home and earnest in the field. They want to work with their handler and can be stubborn if training is unclear. They need more exercise than a casual companion of the same size.

The breed is generally sturdy. Hip dysplasia and ear infections can occur, as in other pointing breeds.
