The Large Vendeen Griffon is a substantial, rustic French pack hound with a long harsh coat, a bearded face, and dropped ears. The outline is that of a boar hound, built for dense Vendee cover.

Temperament

These griffons are typically courageous on game and friendly with their own pack. They have a carrying voice and need more work than a quiet house pet.

Training

Train the recall early and use a long line. Scent drive is strong.

Care and grooming

Brush the harsh coat weekly so it does not mat, and clean the ears after work in cover.

Moderate.

Health

The breed is generally hardy. Ear infections and pad injuries are the common working-dog issues.
