The Irish Terrier is a medium, racy terrier with a long head, small V-shaped folded ears, and a harsh red coat.  The outline is longer than many terriers, built for vermin work and for following the hunt.

A wiry, daredevil terrier for a house and yard; coat stripping, a ready voice, and more fire than a quiet apartment usually wants.

The Irish Terrier is one of the older terrier breeds of Ireland, used to kill vermin and as a farm and family dog.  It is sometimes called the daredevil.  The AKC and UKC both place it in the Terrier Group.

Care and grooming

Brush the harsh coat weekly and strip it a few times a year.  Keep the furnishings tidy.

Shedding

Low.

Health

Irish Terriers are generally hardy.  Urinary stones and hip dysplasia can occur in some lines; keep the dog lean.
