The French Tricolor Hound is a large, lean pack hound with a long head, long dropped ears, and a short tricolor coat. The outline is that of a French running hound, built for all-day work.

The French Tricolor Hound, or Chien Francais Tricolore, is a French pack hound used on deer and other large game. It is one of the three coat-color varieties of the Chien Francais. The UKC classes it as a Scenthound.

Temperament

These hounds are typically good-natured with their own pack and determined on a scent. They have a carrying voice and need more running than a short walk. They are not quiet apartment dogs.

Training

Train the recall early and use a long line. Scent will beat a weak recall.

Care and grooming

Wipe the short coat and clean the long ears after work.

Shedding

Low to moderate.

Health

The breed is generally hardy. Ear infections and pad injuries are the common working-dog issues.
