The Blue Lacy is a medium, short-coated working dog, usually blue-gray, with erect or folded ears and a lean, athletic body. The outline is that of a Texas ranch and hunting dog, not a heavy hound.

The Blue Lacy was developed in Texas by the Lacy family as an all-purpose ranch and hunting dog. It is the state dog of Texas.

Temperament

Lacys are typically intense, loyal to their handler, and high-energy. They need a job and can become noisy or destructive if they are left idle. They are not a soft first-time companion breed.

Training

Be consistent and give the dog ranch, scent, or sport work. A bored Lacy will invent trouble.

Care and grooming

The short coat needs only a weekly wipe. A secure fence matters more than fancy trimming.

The breed is generally hardy. Keep working dogs fit rather than overfed.
