The Austrian Black and Tan Hound is a medium, rectangular scenthound with a short black-and-tan coat, dropped ears, and tan spots above the eyes (the four eyes). The outline is that of a mountain tracking hound.

A scent hound for country miles: short coat, a tracking voice, and little interest in idle indoor life.

The Austrian Black and Tan Hound, or Brandlbracke, is an Austrian scenthound used on hare and to follow wounded game in mountain country.

Temperament
